It is necessary to be able to view the full-header of an email message if you need to forward a spam message or other email that needs to be investigated. Viewing full-headers is also useful if you are interested in getting a more detailed look about where your message originated, but it is not a fool-proof method since email headers can be spoofed or faked.
Mac OS X Mail
Go to the View menu, select the Messages submenu and the option for "Long Headers"
Entourage
While in Entourage, open the email you want to view full headers on by double-clicking it so that it opens in a new window.
Click View on the Entourage menu bar at the top of the screen.
Select Internet Headers.
The full headers are displayed above the message.
Outlook 2011
Hold down the Control key and click on the message in the list of messages. Select "View Source" from the menu which appears.
This will open the message in Text Edit. Copy the headers from the document which opens.
Outlook 2007
You can display full headers by double clicking on a message so that it opens in a separate window (not the preview pane).
Click on the Message Options button.
The Internet headers will be displayed in a separate window:
To send for analysis: At the bottom of the “Message Options” window, click in the text area labeled “Internet headers” and press Ctrl A on the keyboard to select all. To copy: right-click the highlighted area and click copy or press Ctrl C on the keyboard. To paste: Create a new email message and right-click and select paste or press Ctrl V on the keyboard.
Outlook 2003
You can display full headers by double clicking on a message so that it opens in a separate window (not the preview pane).
Choose the View pull down menu, then select Options.
The Internet headers are shown in the box at the bottom of the window.
To send for analysis: At the bottom of the “Message Options” window, click in the text area labeled “Internet headers” and press Ctrl A on the keyboard to select all. To copy: right-click the highlighted area and click copy or press Ctrl C on the keyboard. To paste: right-click in the new email message and click paste or press Ctrl V on the keyboard.
Outlook Express
Double-Click the e-mail message to open it in its own window.
Click the File menu and select Properties.
Click the "Details" tab
Click "Message Source"
Copy and paste everything from this window.
Eudora
Open the email by double clicking on the subject line. You can display full headers by clicking the icon with the text:
